The Loggerhead turtle that has laid her eggs on the beach of Ocean’s Reach, probably hatched on the same beach years ago, and will lay eggs four times in one nesting season. She digs a hole and deposits her eggs gently, covers them with sand and departs. The Hatchlings will dig their way to the surface about sixty days after being laid. As they are heading to the surface, they will stay just below the top layer of sand until it is nightfall. The turtles always head toward the brightest horizon which is usually over the ocean. Occasionally, lights from houses confuse them and they head off in the wrong direction and rarely survive. But the race is on for the all the others heading in the correct direction. They need to make it safely to the water without being eaten by predators such as raccoons. Once in the water they still need to watch out for predators, such as sharks, fishing and trawl netting which are a threat to the Loggerheads no matter how large they grow. And because turtles need to surface to breathe, boats are also a large threat the their existence.
But for now Ocean’s Reach Turtle Patrol and the residents and guest will do what they can to get these wonderful little creatures hatched and safely to the ocean.
There is still time to welcome summer at Ocean’s Reach! Just give us a call and any of us can get you booked in for a wonderful week enjoying a Sanibel rental in your own luscious condo at Ocean’s Reach, and as the picture shows, only steps from the Gulf!!

The following is a request for anyone who is interested in helping the City of Sanibel obtain a grant to improve the wonderful shared paths that most everyone on the Island enjoys. As you read the following news release, you will understand why resident support is so important to this project. We are asking residents and guests to email their thoughts in support of Sanibel’s 26 miles of shared use pathways. It is an island treasure and Ocean’s Reach is on the pathway. Send your email to email@example.com. The deadline is 5pm on Friday the 26th of June. Thanks!!!

City Seeks Residents Assistance for Shared Use Path Grant Application
Dear Sanibel Resident:
With much public input, the City of Sanibel recently completed a comprehensive Shared Use Path Master Plan. The Plan calls for various investments necessary to improve the safety and infrastructure of Sanibel’s Shared Use Path System. At this time, we are seeking grants which may assist in reducing the costs to the City.
One of the grants that we are currently working on is the Kodak American Greenways Award. We are pursuing this grant with the purpose of implementing adequate directional signage along the Shared Use Paths. The grant gives special consideration to community based projects that have significant resident support. Therefore, we need you.
If you would like to send an email to be included in the grant application package explaining why you enjoy and appreciate Sanibel’s Shared Use Paths and the importance of these paths to our community, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org by 5pm, Friday, June 26, 2009.
Thank you for your consideration.

Brianna has been vacationing on Sanibel since she was 10 months old. Her grandmother and grandfather have been enjoying her company at Ocean’s Reach for two weeks every year since she was old enough to walk. Now, at 13, she is a medal earning swimmer in Pennsylvania with a goal of being the next female swimmer olympiad, Michael Phelps.
While visiting OR in May, Brianna had a chance to relax from the school year, her hectic training schedule and the cool PA spring. Her grandmother says that two weeks is never enough.
During her visit, Dru invited her to be her guest at the Sanibel Recreation Center where Brianna could swim the afternoon away in the lap pool. Keep an eye on this sweet young lady, or “Fast Swimmer” as she is known to her friends and family, because she is on the move..
Thank you so much for yet again another wonderful stay.
We also want to thank you for extending our reservation to this year that we had made last year.
We were to come in 2008, however we ended up staying in Russia for a month finalizing the adoption of our two children to FINALLY bring them home.
Because you let us come in 2009 instead, we were able to have our very first family vacation with them here!!!
It was their very first time to see the beach and the Gulf. They had never seen seashells before either.
As you can see by the attached pictures, we had a WONDERFUL stay. You can tell they had a very fun time.
Thank you again and God Bless,
Mike, Carol , Alex, and Sophia Marczuk
Dear Ocean’s Reach,
I am attaching a few of the MANY photos I took from the Gilbride family stay at Ocean’s Reach, Thanksgiving week of 2008.
I was fascinated by the beautiful light quality on the beach at various times of day and loved to photograph what we refer to as the “Ocean’s Reach birds”, always gathered in their spot right in front or to the left of OR. The first photo in the group is sunrise on Thanksgiving Day.
We had an absolutely wonderful time…….
