Sea Oats are a stabilizing grass that grows along the coast of Florida, including Sanibel Island. They are in full bloom and seeding from Summer through the Fall, and the Spikelets can grow to be as tall as six feet high. Remember though, do not pick! You will be fined in the State of Florida as they are so highly valued for their ecological effect of holding the beaches in place. Just enjoy watching as they sway gently in the ocean’s breeze.
Many times when you think of going to Florida on vacation, you think of sitting on the beach with a good book or your ipod and just relaxing. But there are other beautiful and very serene spots that don’t always come to mind. Ocean’s Reach Sanibel Island Condos has just the spot…The Grove!! They have arranged it so that you can have a small gathering and cook out, sit in the cooling shade with wi-fi, and now it is possible to relax on lounge chairs overlooking the pond which is a nature lovers paradise.
Stacey Monnar vacations every summer at Ocean’s Reach on Sanibel Island with her family. This year she ran an aerobic boot camp each morning at 8:00 for her sister-in-law and friends.
The boot camp routine consisted of early morning lap swims in the pool, sprints down Camino del Mar and aerobics in “The Grove”.
Stacy is Terry Byrns’ daughter. Great idea Stacy, I’m sure there are many who wish they could join you!
Sanibel vacations are really wonderful and always leave us with sweet memories, but there are those extremely unusual circumstances that can leave some of us with new relationships that can span a lifetime, such as the one when two sets of twins just happen to meet.
The other day we posted a challenge from two 11 year old twin girls, Lauren and Julia, to all Ocean Reach blog readers. The girls decided they would also like to share a few of their other experiences while visiting Ocean’s Reach.
The best of the best encounters was with two other guests vacationing at the same time at Ocean’s Reach who were also 11 year old twin girls named Amanda and Ashley. What a remarkable chance encounter!! It was so remarkable that they have already begun exchanging letters and are hoping to vacation together at Ocean’s Reach again.
During their special week, they had several “dolphin encounters” with the dolphins swimming around them within 15-20 feet. The dolphins were feeding on small fish in the shallow waters. This happened on a couple of different days. A Manatee was also spotted within five feet of a couple of other guests in front of Ocean’s Reach. As the girls say “How cool is that!”. They also found starfish which they modeled on their heads before releasing them and tons of sand dollars which were also gently placed back into their homes.
According to the mothers, Amanda and Ashley are identical twins born April 17. Amanda is one minute older than Ashley.
Julia and Lauren are fraternal twins born December 11. Julia is one minute older than Lauren.
All four girls are 11 and will be starting sixth grade in the fall.
They share a love of horses, puppies, swimming and Oceans Reach.
They had an enormous amount of fun in the pool, but enjoyed the ocean, too, especially picking up the floating batches of sargassum grass to look for small fish and crabs underneath.
What a remarkable week for four beautiful young girls, and also for all the others who enjoyed watching them have so much fun. Thank you to both families for sharing their experiences!! And a special “Thanks” to Julia and Lauren, and Amanda and Ashley from all at Ocean’s Reach!!
