Taken early the other morning on the beach in front of Ocean’s Reach! Sanibel brings out a lot of creativity, so come on down and see what is happening!
Carolyn Horn, wife of Augie Horn has been staying at O.R. each Fall for the last several years. Yesterday she found her first Junonia in front of Ocean’s Reach after years of looking. What a thrill! Congratulations to Carolyn!
I recently came across and article written by S. Peter Dance, a Conchologist of America, Inc., where he writes of finding his first Junonia on Sanibel. It is an interesting article written in 1971 and if you’d like to read it, just click here.
Many of our guests at Ocean’s Reach are avid college football fans, so in the Fall you will see them attired in their school colors. The games can be watched in their condos while still enjoying the view of the Gulf of Mexico or at several of the sports bars here on the island. Game attire always helps root the teams on to victory!!
You will never be far from your favorite home team while staying at Ocean’s Reach. You can catch all the action from your flat panel or flat screen LCD TVs (and on your favorite cable channel). There is a TV in every bedroom and living room for fans of all sports and teams. Take a peek into the Big 10 action at Ocean’s Reach this past Saturday.
Congratulations to all Buckeye Fans, Coach Tressel and his magnificent players and coaching staff. They are the best!! Ohio State 24 Penn State 7!!
Educator, librarian and children’s author, Marianne Berkes, was a recent guest of Ocean’s Reach. She thanked Dru, Andy and Charlie for “four glorious days in the serenity of Ocean’s Reach”. Berkes was a featured speaker at the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum and “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge for the annual Ding Darling Days festival.
Coincidentally, Lorena’s daughter, Jennifer, celebrated her 7th birthday on Sunday. A perfect birthday gift from Sanibel is “Seashells by the Seashore”, Marianne’s third book. This story is both entrancing, beautifully illustrated and educational. A popular aspect of the book is the many pages of pictures and descriptions of the Sanibel shells found on our beach. Marianne generously personalized the book for Jennifer’s birthday.
Happy Birthday, Jennifer!
Over the last several days I have been watching our Osprey nest at Ocean’s Reach for any sign indicating the return of our nesting Osprey. Last week I saw Ospreys sitting in and around nests just off Island and around the Dunes Country Club.
This morning, October 13th, was the first sighting of our Osprey. May we have another successful breeding year.
