A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, October 2, at 9:30 am at the Sanibel Historical Village to honor Sam Bailey‘s life on Sanibel. Hundreds attended by sitting on bales of hay or standing in the grassy historic village in front of the early Bailey’s General Store. Moving tributes were made by brother, Francis, the City Manager, Judie Zimomra and City Councilman, Marty Harrity. Other remembrances were made by Richard Johnson, Bailey’s General Manager and relative of Sam Bailey and guests in attendance. A lovely a cappella vocal tribute of “God Bless America” was sung by Callie Atkinson. Sam Bailey’s daughter also remembered her father by saying he was a “cuddly teddy bear” to his three daughters. A video tribute, “Sam Bailey “In His Own Words” was shown and produced by Rusty Farst.
Following the ceremony, guests milled around the village and were treated to refreshments by Bailey’s General Store. Many guests were heard to say that they had never visited the historical village even though they have lived on Sanibel for years and years. It is worth a visit for sure!
