This past July, Traditions restaurant, situated on the Gulf in the Island Inn complex, hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by both Dru and me. Pictured with Dru, is Ocean’s Reach owner Bev Webb (left) and Nancy Black (center).
Would any young kid on vacation at Ocean’s Reach not want to ride in a convertible with the top down to Pinocchio’s for the best Sanibel ice cream cone available?
Certainly not these two! Pictured is Andy getting ready to drive his son’s two children for a special treat. When they arrived at Pinocchio’s they were number 27 in line. “In July”! They do have the best home made ice cream in the entire area.
Does anyone recognize this Caesar salad and know which Sanibel restaurant created it? Andy loves to try new Caesar salads, and while his favorite is from Lazy Flamingo, he says this one from Matzaluna’s was pretty good also.
It really looks tasty and so does the rest of the dinner. Keep up the food reviews Andy!
The Clever clan from Spartanburg have two condos and 7 guests that will enjoy using the local Kiwanis dining coupon book.
When not making restaurant reservations, the Clever family are cooking their fish outdoors. Hearty eaters, they made good use of the coupon books. Don’t forget to pick up yours at Ocean’s Reach Guest Services. It will definitely save you lots of dollars while enjoying the many Sanibel restaurants.
We recommend the Sanibel Deli and Coffee Factory for deli eat-in or take-out food. It has also become our favorite pizza joint. Nevertheless, if you are in withdrawal from rye bread and cold cuts, fresh coleslaw and potato salad, this is the place to eat.
PS. I hear their coffee is pretty hot, too!
Hungry for a spectacular breakfast? Then head on down toward the lighthouse and watch for the charming little yellow building that advertises “The World’s Best Breakfast”. The Lighthouse Cafe can tempt your taste buds with just about anything your appetite is craving, from a Lighthouse Mimosa to a Seafood Benedict! This has always been a favorite place for breakfast, located on Periwinkle, and aptly named, the Lighthouse Cafe!
Fred can hardly wait until May 1st, when the 2 for 1 Kiwanis Club restaurant coupon books go on sale. Purchase yours at Ocean’s Reach for $30 and get 27 Sanibel Island restaurants offering the 2 for 1 promotion. New to this year’s book is Cip’s Place, the Stone Crab and the Crow’s Nest.
Don’t forget to stop by and get yours before they are sold out!
Sanibel Restaurant Poll Results
The critiquing of the quality of a restaurant, their service, and food
is a common practice. There are entire guides devoted to explaining
why a restaurant is a 3 star instead of a 4 star. Instead of using
over-refined techniques and in-depth research to find out what the
optimal dining experience is, we opt to look at a much simpler metric.
A visitor’s stomach.
Island Cow captured almost a quarter of the votes in our online poll
asking visitors the question; “What is your favorite restaurant on
Sanibel/Captiva?” The family style restaurant provides “Udderly Great
Food” for all meals of the day with a snack menu between. Enjoy your
meal on either a front or back patio or in the airy bistro itself.
Visitors found the more mature atmosphere of Doc Ford’s Rum Bar and
Grille appealing. Placing second in the poll, Doc Ford’s is a great spot
to take in a game and have a great meal. Seafood lovers found an
excellent offering from The Timbers Restaurant and Fish Market. Billed
as Sanibel’s Source for Seafood, the Timbers came in third with
respondents’ votes. A more festive atmosphere with a seafood menu is
provide by the Lazy Flamingo. Their casual dining experience placed
fourth amongst polled visitors.
Other great restaurants and dining experiences were featured in the
poll but did not command nearly the same attention. A great dining
experience might await visitors at Jacaranda with their Seafood,
Steaks, and Spirits. Lunch or dinner near the beach at the Mucky Duck
has been available for over 35 years.
The Hungry Heron offers up a diverse menu of over 250 items with a
claim to the freshest seafood on the island. Dine dockside at Gramma
Dot’s and enjoy an offering from their “ONLY FRESH” menu. Why not a
mouth-watering meal with live entertainment at Traders?
Maybe you visited one of these great establishments that was not
represented as well in our online poll results. Come on over to our
new poll and show some love for that great dining experience with
these restaurants or Cip’s that you had by voting in our latest online
We would love to hear your thoughts and feedback on the results of the

these restaurants have to offer the visitors of Sanibel Island? Maybe

that have been noted? Feel free to share your thoughts and experiences
