You asked for it, you helped us, we did our part – and now Ocean’s Reach has become the first and only lodging facility on the islands of Sanibel-Captiva to earn official Florida Green Lodge designation by the Department of Environmental Protection!

 

It took a detailed self-analysis, months of effort, changes to our operations and a thorough on-site assessment by the DEP to earn the designation. 

 

But it’s worth it.

 

“By recycling and conserving energy, we will keep the area as pristine as possible. Sixty percent of our island is preserved in its natural state, which is what attracts visitors and residents alike,” says Andy Boyle, our general manager. “It’s an honor to be part of the Florida Green Lodging Program, and we hope every facility on Sanibel joins us.”

 

We’ve earned One Palm designation, signifying we’ve demonstrated best practices in communication, water conservation, energy efficiency, waste reduction and clean air. We’re just the ninth lodging to be designated a Green Lodge in Lee County.

Our environmentally friendly operations mean you can vacation knowing you’re supporting a clean environment and a “fuel future” for our cities, states and country. Here’s how:

 

We’re using non-toxic cleaning supplies in your condos to protect your health and the environment.

 

You’ll see more energy-efficient light bulbs throughout your condo. Please let us replace and dispose of the bulbs properly during your stay.

 

We’ve made it easy for you to recycle cans and plastics. Look for conveniently located recycling bins throughout the buildings and grounds. Inside your condo, we’re using recycled paper supplies.

 

We’re conserving water wherever possible and encourage you to do the same by:

· Turning off the faucet while brushing your teeth.
· Running the dishwasher only when it’s full.

 

Conserve energy by:

· Using cold water when using the washing machine.

· Keeping doors and windows closed when the A/C is on.
· Turning lights and ceiling fans off when not in use.
· Keeping curtains and blinds closed during the days you’re not in the condo.

· Cleaning the lint trap every time you use the dryer.
· Using bikes, skates or rollerblades on our pedal-friendly grounds to reduce our carbon footprint on the island.
