NEW RECREATION CENTER DEDICATION CEREMONY AND GRAND OPENING THIS WEEKEND –
PUBLIC INVITED TO ATTEND

All Citizens of Sanibel are invited to attend the Recreation Center Dedication, Saturday, December 1st, at 10am. Music, performed by the Big Arts Community Band, will begin at 9:30am. The Recreation Center is located at 3880 Sanibel Captiva Road.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, that will include sealing of the time capsule and unveiling of the dedication plaque, the community is invited to a Health Fair that will be held from 11am to 2pm in the new facility.

Everyone is also invited to join two land aerobics classes, which will be led by Sanibel Fitness at 1pm and 3pm in the Gymnasium as part of the daylong festivities. Also during the dedication, adult tennis clinics will be conducted at 1pm and 3pm and youth tennis clinics will be held at 2pm and 4pm on the new tennis courts. Immediately following the dedication all the amenities at the facility including the Pools, Weight Room, Teen Room, Gym and Skate Park will be open for public use. The Bloodmobile will be on site from 11am to 2pm for those wishing to donate during the holiday season. On-site safety demonstrations by the Sanibel Police Department and the Sanibel Fire District will be conducted.

Citizens attending the 10 a.m. Saturday, December 1st, Recreation Center dedication are urged to bike to the event. For those not biking, the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge is providing additional overflow parking at both their western parking lot and the former Island Water site, now owned by the Refuge on the south side of Sanibel Captiva Road. Trolley service will be operated from the overflow parking to the Recreation Center from 8 am to 6 pm throughout the day Saturday.

Handicap parking for those with an official handicap placard will be available at the Recreation Center.
