So you want to go deep sea Fishing at Sanibel!!!!

There are several opportunities within 15 minutes of our Oceans Reach to catch the big ones, or more important, to catch “good eating fish” which you can eat within your condo! Two of the most popular fish are Grouper and several variations of Snapper. On San Carlos Blvd, approximately 1 mile South toward Fort Myers Beach, from Summerlin is the Getaway Marina, on the right side as you head south; next door, 50 yards south towards Fort Myers Beach, is Dick Cain’s Dock.

Sailing from the Getaway Marina are several “6 pack” boats, called 6 packs, because they are limited to a maximum of 6 fisherman due to Florida licensing. One boat that I’ve had very good results with is “Southwind” piloted by Captain Hans.

Sailing from “Cain’s dock, is the Teresa Marie piloted by Dick Cain or sometimes his backup pilot. A second boat from this dock is the “Seabreeze” , piloted by Captain Scott.

While boats can be chartered by the day, all captains welcome split groups, and even one walk-on! Reserving ahead is a must as fishing has been good. Leaving your name and phone number with the captain will mostly afford you a call back should he be booked on a specific day you request. If you’re here for a week, first check the weather forecast, then call the captains boat and check availability of space and make your reservation! All boats provide: poles/tackle, bait. You provide your food and drinks for the day. Most people carry a small 6/12 pack cooler for beverage and a sandwich.

The mate helps you with hook, line, bait issues and of course ,fillets your fish at the end of the day! He provides you with plastic bags and ice to get your prize back to the condo!! Another option is to take your fresh fish to one of several restaurants on the island where , for a nominal fee, will prepare your fish and give you two sides to enjoy with your catch!

Boats generally board around 6:30AM and arrive back at dock after 4:00PM. PS. Check with your captain during reservations for specifics!
