Picnic at the Pink Out

Owner Judy G (top right) joined her good pal Carol at the 6th annual Pink Out Sanibel & Captiva Islands – also known as Picnic at the Pink Out – held recently at Sanibel Fire & Rescue District Station #1.

More than 40 people, including breast cancer survivors and family and friends attended the celebratory event, which also helped raise money for uninsured women needing mammograms and related needs on the island.

“Just about everyone has been touched by cancer in one way or another, and we want to educate the importance of early detection and mammography,” said Mary Bondurant, event organizer.

The American Cancer Society estimates one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Early detection has been proven critical, as the survival rate for an early diagnosed breast canceer at five years is better than 97 percent.
