Fish Stories from the Bumgarners
Sam Bumgarner and son Chris (from California) spend “fishing week” at Ocean’s Reach each year. They do the Gulf fishing in the morning and grill at night. Their culinary skills netted that great wilted lettuce salad, fish kabobs and short ribs that I blogged about several days ago. Read below their short story about their fishing trip on the great gulf.
“These photos were taken about 1/2 mile out from Ocean’s Reach while fishing with guide Pat Lovetro. The fish was a black-tipped shark. The other photo with the bent rod held a tarpon, unfortunately, only briefly. My son and I have shared this Father-Son week of fishing for 20 years and this is the first year we did not “boat” a tarpon. There were plenty, just no hungry ones!! We are already looking forward next year!!”

Hey Sam: We missed seeing you this year after you arrived @ Ocean’s Reach. Apparently you must have gone ‘boat fishin’ when we (me, my brother Chuck and friend Neil) were ‘beach fishin’. We were able to talk to Red, Roger and Pat while we were there. Maybe next year, good lord willing. Nice catch you two caught. We caught enough off the beach for our usual fish fry on Friday night and enough to take a couple messes home with me which have already been eaten. It was great. Ben Everling.

Hi Ben,
Sorry I missed seeing you while we were all there. Did not see you on the beach when we were in the condo or I would have been down to say hello. It does not surprise me that you caught enough fish for several messes to take home. Am sure you continue to enjoy Ocean’s Reach, what a special place to be. Have a great year and look forward to seeing you next year. Sam

Hi – our family will be arriving at Ocean’s Reach on June 23 and are hoping to arrange a fishing trip. One of your recent guests blogged about a fishing trip they took – here is a quote from their blog:
“These photos were taken about 1/2 mile out from Ocean’s Reach while fishing with guide Pat Lovetro”
Can you tell me how to contact this guide? Or do you have any other guides you recommend?
Thanks! We look forward to hearing from you.
Kim
