The Periwinkle Park and Camp Ground located on Sanibel Island is a must see for all visitors. It offers the wonderful opportunity to many who would prefer to get back to nature, by providing camping facilities, for the short term visit, a place to park your camper or motor home for the winter months, or even the chance to own a permanent place in the park. The owner is a naturalist who loves to raise birds,which he sells or keeps. If you have ever been lucky enough to visit Jerry’s Supermarket on Sanibel, then you know the birds we speak of. They are magnificent creatures to watch and take a little of the stress out of grocery shopping. Every morning at about 9:30 a lady who is an avid bird enthusiast also, arrives to feed the birds, all the while giving a wonderful discertation on the traits of each bird and their personalities.There are other beautiful creatures to meet also including the interesting Lemurs. So for a fun and informational tour, stop by some morning and meet some members of the community.

A popular method of transportation on the Island is by bicycle. Even dogs travel this way.

A Christmas musical performance at Ocean’s Reach was savored by over sixty guests, friends and neighbors in the Grove at Ocean’s Reach – an overflow crowd. A trio of Broadway professional vocalists delighted and warmed the hearts of all with traditional Christmas Carols. Guests joined in at the end to sing their favorite Christmas songs.
A perfect way to welcome all to Ocean’s Reach and start the Holiday Season.

The building at the entrance to Sanibel on Periwinkle Way undergoing a total transformation.

There was a red shoulder hawk that nested in the building across from Central Park where Mary Tyler Moore and several other rich and famous live. It was called Pale Male.

It raised a family there for several years and he had his own web site with pictures and an update daily. He would draw several people, sometimes in the hundreds, each day. They even did a TV special on him. Paula Zhan’s husband became president of the board and had the nest taken down. It made national headlines. After several weeks and a huge protest he had the nest replaced.

The 20th annual Jacaranda golf tournament held at the Dunes Country Club on the first Sunday in December.
