This beautiful Allamanda bush graces the entrance to the Grove.
Allamanda, also known as Yellow Bell, Golden Trumpet or Buttercup Flower, is native to Brazil and is an evergreen tropical plant. This plant can be grown as an annual in the North until frost, and also can be raised as a house plant, but due to the size, it is difficult to keep for long in the home.
Stop for a second and study the beauty of this amazing plant as you pass through the Grove.
The 4th of July parade on Sanibel island was a huge success and enjoyed by so many people. We thought all of you who were absent would enjoy a review!!
The Loggerhead turtle that has laid her eggs on the beach of Ocean’s Reach, probably hatched on the same beach years ago, and will lay eggs four times in one nesting season. She digs a hole and deposits her eggs gently, covers them with sand and departs. The Hatchlings will dig their way to the surface about sixty days after being laid. As they are heading to the surface, they will stay just below the top layer of sand until it is nightfall. The turtles always head toward the brightest horizon which is usually over the ocean. Occasionally, lights from houses confuse them and they head off in the wrong direction and rarely survive. But the race is on for the all the others heading in the correct direction. They need to make it safely to the water without being eaten by predators such as raccoons. Once in the water they still need to watch out for predators, such as sharks, fishing and trawl netting which are a threat to the Loggerheads no matter how large they grow. And because turtles need to surface to breathe, boats are also a large threat the their existence.
But for now Ocean’s Reach Turtle Patrol and the residents and guest will do what they can to get these wonderful little creatures hatched and safely to the ocean.
The Manor family reunites from the Brunswick and St. Simon Island, GA. Over 15 family members vacation in 3 condos for two weeks over the 4th of July. This is a family tradition for over 20 years!!
What is their favorite 4th activity?? Squirting water pistols at the Ocean’s Reach bicycle float at the 4th of July Sanibel Island parade on Periwinkle, they all show up in their red, white and blue outfits with water guns loaded, keeping themselves drenched and the parade participants as well.
A special Happy 4th to all of our friends from the Ocean’s Reach Gang!!!!
