Happy 40th Anniversary!

 

The “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society, one of the first two friends group created for the U.S. National Wildlife Refuge System, begins celebrating its 40th anniversary year today.

The yearlong celebration begins with the reveal of a new 40th anniversary logo for DDWS shown above.

A Honey Sommelier

Almost two decades ago, Marina Marchese fell in love with bees during a tour of a neighbor’s honeybee hives. She built her own beehive, ordered bees, and was soon harvesting honey.

She eventually quit her job in the arts, and even spent time in Italy training to become a ‘honey sensory expert’ – which is basically like being a honey sommelier. Today, her small business Red Bee Honey sells artisanal honey and honey-related products to shops and restaurants all over the country.  » Read more

‘Ding’ Days celebrates 2016 Migratory Bird Treaty Centennial #birdyear

In addition to celebrating Jay N. “Ding” Darling’s 140th birthday and National Wildlife Refuge Week, this year’s “Ding” Darling Days, Oct. 16-22, celebrates the centennial of the convention between the United States and Great Britain (representing Canada) for the protection of migratory birds. Also called the Migratory Bird Treaty, it was signed on Aug. 16, 1916.
